Stop Lying: Instagram Says Lame Update Was A “Bug”, Twitter Suspects The Jig

Twitter Reacts To Instagram's Terrible Update

Source: picture alliance / Getty

Instagram almost died today, the cause a ridiculous update no one asked for. The popular photo-sharing social media platform rolled out a new update that no one liked and quickly rolled it back and blamed it on a “bug.” Twitter found that assertion hard to believe.

All we really want is chronological feed, but instead, the folks at the now Facebook-owned Instagram felt the need to change the way we peruse through our timelines. You usually view photos by scrolling, the update changed that to a Tinder-like swiping feature and users let Instagram know this ain’t it chief swiftly on Twitter.

The outrage seemingly worked, and Instagram quickly rolled back the update and announced via its official Twitter account that some users feed was affected by a “bug.”

Twitter isn’t buying the excuse due to the fact there was an introduction page bringing users up to speed about the new update resulting in people wondering what kind of “bug” does that? We’re not buying it either and believe the folks at IG were testing the feature and saw no one liked the new feed and decided instead of suffering the same fate as Snapchat to just revert to back to the old feed.

We are sure Instagram learned a valuable lesson today, and that is if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. You can peep the fallout from Instagram’s failed update below.

Frank Ocean Covers ‘GQ’, Explains Why He Made His IG Public [Photos]

While Frank Ocean may never fully embrace the celebrity spotlight he has made some recent strides that should be commended. He explains why he is opening up in a new magazine feature.

As spotted on Complex the New Orleans Native covers the February edition of GQ. As part of the yearly music issue he provides some context behind some of his most recent moves specifically making his Instagram account public back in November. Being that the “Novacane” crooner is uber private this was a pretty big deal.

“I feel like there was dissonance between how I was seen by the audience and where I was actually, so that contributed to the decision to make my Instagram public, for sure,” he explained. “But there’s also the idea of dialogue and discourse and conversation—like theater where the audience can interrupt you versus the television.”

Instagram Photo

When asked to provide examples of the perceived disconnect he pointed to his overall public perception that in his mind couldn’t be farther from reality. “That dissonance—the word being a big container for what I was feeling…the way I was seen was not even close to correct. It’s still not correct, either.”

Instagram Photo

He also details how moving to New York City is going. “I like it a lot because I spend more time at the house. I think it comes from living in hotels, but when I’m in L.A., I find myself in my car a lot.… Which is stress. In New York, it’s the first time in a minute that I’ve had my own space that’s not a hotel and not some rented home, where everything around me is mine, and that’s been really cozy and comfortable this past year.”

Drake might not speak much but his moves on social media certainly do. The 6 God hit the button on a couple of your favorite stars last week for the good and the bad.

Drizzy apparently took issue with the Weeknd and his newest track. The singer’s latest song “Lost In The Fire” has some bars that are perceived by many as a swipe at Champagne Papi and his lack of parenting skills (“And I just want a baby with the right one/ ‘Cuz I could never be the one to hide one”). As per Complex October’s Very Own unfollowed Abel on Instagram.

During that same time frame the “God’s Plan” rapper hit the follow button Rap’s viral sensation of the month Soulja Boy. In his now infamous interview with The Breakfast Club King Drako entered the meme hall of fame once again when he said he taught Drake everything he knows.

While the two are not chummy by any means it should be noted Drake did jump on Soulja Boy’s “We Made It” in 2013. Revisit the classic freestyle below.

Instagram Says It Is Not Limiting Your Posts’ Reach In Lenghty Twitter Response

Instgram Responds To Claims It Is Limiting Posts' Reach

Source: picture alliance / Getty

If your one of the many users who feel like your latest selfie, food flick or ridiculous meme isn’t getting any attention, you are not alone. Yesterday (Jan. 22) on Twitter,  Instagram denied it was limiting the reach of users posts.

There is a good chance you seen one of the many memes claiming that only 7 percent of your followers seeing your posts which has been floating around the social media platform is nothing but “copypasta” according to Instagram. Normally false information as such usually justs goes by the way-side, but in this case, it became big enough that the Facebook-owned platform had to address it.

Instagram took to its official Twitter account and issued a lengthy statement in a series of Tweets denying limiting posts and breaking down its algorithm. It claims the posts that show up in your feed are determined by the posts and accounts you engage with the most and other contributing factors. Instagram also adds they made no changes to the algorithm and never hide posts from people you’re following all you have to do is keep scrolling.

That algorithm still a bit shaky honestly, we just want our chronological feeds back. You can read Instagram’s statement below.

Add Desiigner to the growing list of people who are not feeling Kanye. The Brooklyn rapper took issue with his record label boss last week.

As spotted on High Snobiety, Desiigner addressed the rather large elephant in the room about his career which seemed to stall after the hype of his hit single “Panda” died off via an IG live video.

“I brought G.O.O.D Music back and everybody know that. So what ya’ll talking about I fell off? It only dropped two mixtapes bro; two. Ya’ll people mad ungrateful; mad ungrateful for the music I gave ya’ll.”

He also took time to make it clear that Yeezy has done very little for him professionally and any moves being made are because of him.

“Nobody is doing this sh*t for me, bro. Nobody is doing this sh*t for me. I had signed to Kanye West. The biggest n**ga. Y’all n**gas think he’s the genius. Y’all think that n***a’s sh*t. But to me, n**ga, that n**ga’s crazy, n**ga. To me, n**ga, I’ve been doing this sh*t myself.”

While the “Timmy Turner” rapper may have a point it would not be fair to point out that West seemingly made “Panda” that much bigger when he flipped it to “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2”.

You can view Desiigner’s rant below.

Ironically he followed up the broadside by dropping a new song called “Finesse”. Peep it below.

Even though the Internets remain undefeated The Boondocks brought a different type of cultural analysis through satire. Thankfully it is back—wellm sort of.

Charlamagne Tha God took to his Instagram account to announce that Aaron McGruder has been in the lab working on reviving the cult comic strip. The host of The Breakfast Club posted a message directly from the artist.

“Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say. These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show – and he’s a busy guy. Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my instagram act together.”

The post featured a three page spread spoofing the ongoing speculation about Russian collusion within the White House. To the delight of many, Uncle Ruckus is the cabinet member under the hot seat.

Instagram Photo

Originally debuting nationally in The Source Magazine in 1996, The Boondocks gained popularity eventually landing a television show on the Adult Swim network. The series ran for 55 episodes closing up shop in 2014. McGruder attempted to raise funds for a movie adaption but fell short of his goal thus he scrapped the idea. Cardi B has often expressed her discomfort with fame despite the overwhelming amount of support she gets from both her fans and peers. However, just a day after her historic Grammy Awards win, the Bronx superstar deleted her Instagram page after trolls kept attacking her.

The Blast reports:

One day after winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album, Cardi responded to the backlash over her historic victory with a video where she ranted, “I’m seeing a lot of bulls**t today and I saw a lot of s**t last night and I’m sick of this s**t. I worked hard for my motherf**king album.”

The rapper then got drawn into a controversy with BET and Nicki Minaj after the cable network shaded Nicki in a post that was supposed to celebrate Cardi’s win.

And finally, Cardi B received flowers congratulating her on her win with a note that quoted a Tom Petty song lyric. She posted a video on her Instagram Story … thanking Tom Petty for the flowers, even though he died in October 2017.

Cardi B is one of the most accessible artists by way of her social media accounts, and she often replies directly to fans which has endeared her to many.

Instagram Quietly Testing Ability To Slide In & Read DMs Via Desktop

Instagram Testing Web DMs

Source: Chesnot / Getty

Instagram’s desktop version, for the most part, isn’t really that useful except for browsing but that seems to be changing since Facebook acquired the photo-sharing social platform. It would seem that Instagram is now testing the ability to send and receive direct messages through its website.

No word on if we will ever be able to post through the website though.

Reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong spotted the update and shared her discovery via her Twitter account. Apparently, the test adds the messaging icon from the IG app to its website right next to the explore tab. Some have pointed out that this update comes on the heels of reports that Facebook is looking to unify all of its messaging apps.

Instagram secretly testing new features with random accounts is nothing new and unlike the last gaff when it rolled out an update and called it a “bug.” But if Facebook is serious about cross-platform messaging between WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram which all signs indicate they are, then the company testing this is a clear sign that the feature is coming soon. We will continue to update as more information slowly trickles out.

Just as sure as the sun rises, 50 Cent keeps his petty pistol locked and loaded. Floyd Mayweather, a frequent victim of Fif’s online slander, caught some more shots in the wake of his Gucci shopping spree to which 50 Cent highlighted with comical effect.

It all began when 50 posted a photo of the TMZ Sports story reporting on Mayweather’s Gucci support via Instagram with the caption reading, “Champ you need a publicist, man you saying all the wrong sh*t fool.”

Instagram Photo

Fif followed that up another post featuring a photo of an article and the blackface sweater from Gucci, writing in the caption that he’s “gonna pass on Gucci, I’m giving all mine to the homeless so the right demo can wear it.”

He continued the Gucci slander by posting a video of him burning one of the Gucci t-shirts in his collection and vowing to never wear anything from the fashion brand again.

The G-Unit boss ended his slander salvo by posting a photo of Mayweather with the blackface sweater image scribbled over his face.

Uh oh…this is no bueno. After dealing with Apple’s nasty Facetime glitch there’s a new bug in town. According to reports, Instagram has been having an issue that’s causing users to lose millions of followers.

“The glitch has affected celebrities including Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, and Ariana Grande, who all lost more than a million followers,” Highsnobiety reports. “It has also come for influencers, who have seen their follower counts plummet by the thousand.”

While some assumed Instagram was cracking down on fake followers, as it has done in the past, this wasn’t the case. “We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now. We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible,” Instagram stated yesterday from its Twitter account, later adding that we can expect a fix by today, February 14. Since then there’s been no Twitter update…so stay tuned.

The legal battle between 50 Cent and Teairra Mari regarding the revenge porn matter has since been settled with the reality show star ordered to pay Fif’s legal fees. After the G-Unit boss threw a petty shot on Instagram regarding the $30,000 owed, Mari fired back with a shot of her own calling 50 a rat.

Fif has been throwing his usual subtle shots via his Instagram page towards Mari about the money, but it appears the one that got her to respond was his most recent jab.

“B*tch if you don’t give me my motherf*cking Money, what’s taking you so long? Oh you ain’t got no mone,” read the caption to an image of a grinning 50 Cent and Mari from the press conference regarding the revenge porn matter.

Mari hit back by posting an image of Tekashi 6ix9ine and 50 inside a club with the caption reading, “Now I understand why you son’d #6ix9nine you instilled the Daddy habit, Curtisssss 🐀 🐀🐀🐀🐀 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀@monascottyoung I need an advance @50cent is L👀king 4 me.”

Knowing how 50 Cent gets down, everyone knew he wasn’t going to let that jab go and posted an image of Mona Scott captioned, “Hey @monascottyoung this lil b*tch @misstmariii better give me my money. She Saying she need a advance give me a call lady, 😉looking good.”

Yeah, this can only get worse at this point.

The Internet Reacted To Facebook's Longest Service Outage Ever

Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty

We were you the day Facebook suffered its most extended outage in its history that also took down Instagram along with it? That’s what people will be asking when their Timehop brings them back to this day next year?

The Internet, IG models and anyone else who’s day revolves around those apps collectively lost their minds when Facebook and its collection of social media platforms which includes Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp suffered a massive outage. To add more salt to the wound the company acknowledged it was indeed suffering an outage via its Twitter account, despite the fact chances are high most FB users don’t even Tweet that often.

Facebook’s collected 2.32 billion users were frustrated to find a bevy of problems. On Instagram users couldn’t refresh their feeds, searching the explore page and uploading their thirst traps. FB users pages loaded but they couldn’t post status updates plus the Facebook Messenger wouldn’t load. WhatsApp also suffered the same issues as well and would not allow users to upload photos.  Logging into other apps like Tinder and Spotify using Facebook was also a no go as well, and somehow the VR tool Oculus was affected by the disruption as well.

Facebook claims the outages that began around noon on Wednesday (March 13) are not the result of a distributed denial-of-service attack in which a person floods the service with bad requests with the intentions of overloading it. The company claimed in follow up to the Tweet above that “the issue is not related to a DDoS attack.” They have not revealed publicly what was the cause of the outages that affected New York, Toronto, Detroit, Seattle, San Francisco, Southern California, Bogata, Quito, London, Shenzhen, Manila, Singapore, Sydney, Perth, and Tokyo.

But that didn’t stop users from taking their acts to Twitter and getting in on the #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown movement hilariously voicing their frustrations. You can hit the gallery below to see how folks reacted to the great Facebook and Instagram outage of 2019.

Took Long Enough: Facebook To Ban White Nationalism & White Separatism On Its Platform

Facebook Finally Bans White Nationalism and White Separatism

Source: NurPhoto / Getty

Facebook can’t seem to get anything right as of late but finally has taken a step in the right direction with its latest decision. The social media giant has taken the bold and essential step to ban white nationalism and white separatism on its platform.

The ban will also apply to Instagram as well.

Motherboard first reported that Tuesday Facebook made the decision to ban white nationalism and white separatism with the company’s COO Sheryl Sandberg along with others putting together the new policy. Those who hop on the platform searching for content or posts related to those trash ideologies will be redirected to a nonprofit called Life After Hate which is an avenue that helps people leave hate groups.

As of next week, Facebook who has already banned new age hate group the Proud Boys will now prohibit representation, praise and any of support of white nationalism and white separatism and will hone in on specific terms like “I am a proud white nationalist” and “Immigration is tearing this country apart; white separatism is the only answer.” Facebook will be utilizing machine learning and AI to help detect the problematic subject matter as well as a system to help delete images and that have been deemed to be hate speech.

Speaking with Motherboard Facebook’s counterterrorism policy director Brian Fishman had this to say about the new policy:

“We decided that the overlap between white nationalism, separatism, and white supremacy is so extensive we really can’t make a meaningful distinction between them. And that’s because the language and the rhetoric that is used and the ideology that it represents overlaps to a degree that it is not a meaningful distinction.”

This is a move the company should have done a long time ago, but hey better late than ever right?

After the mother of his children, Kim Porter, passed away, Diddy has been openly telling the public he messed up by never marrying her. The death of Nipsey Hussle has also affected the music mogul on a deep level, seeing as they worked closely together on the late rapper’s recent, and only, studio album Victory Lap.

In a new post, Diddy reveals he’s spent hours crying so he could “let that sh*t out.”

“I ain’t gonna lie, I been holding a lot of sh*t in lately. I just had a three-and-a-half-hour cry and let it all out — or as much as I could tap into,” he told his followers. “And that sh*t felt great. Sometimes you gotta let that sh*t out.”

Facebook and Instagram went down, again, today (April 14), but the world did not end, yet. Twitter got these jokes off, though.

Reports the Daily Mail:

Facebook and Instagram were unable to be reached across the world this afternoon as sites display a ‘can’t be reached’ message.

There are also reports of Whatsapp, which is owned by Facebook, being down.

Downdetector.co.uk reported over 4700 complaints that Facebook was down in the UK with the outage beginning at about 10am this morning.

The issue seems to have spread world wide with social media users from all across Europe, America and Asia taking to Twitter to voice their frustration.

Twitter users complained that they were not able to access Facebook or Instagram on their desktops causing a disruption to their day.

The horror.

Peep some of the more poignant reactions to the minor inconvenience below. Another quick observation, social media slander is a universal language.

Facebook and Instagram took measures to ban Min. Louis Farrakhan from its social media services, lumping him with a pair of Right-Wing extremists who also were banned. Joining Farrakhan on the outs with FB and IG are Alex Jones and Milo Yiannopoulos.

Politico reports:

Facebook Thursday banned from its flagship social network and its subsidiary Instagram the Infowars site and its leader Alex Jones, Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, saying their presence on the sites violated its policies against dangerous individuals and organizations.

“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”

Facebook last August cited violations of community standards in removing pages belonging to Jones and Infowars, notorious for peddling unfounded conspiracy theories. The action came amid a flurry of suspensions and content take-downs for Jones and Infowars, which were also booted from Google-owned YouTube, Twitter and other platforms.

The outlet adds that the services also banned Infowars contributor and “New Right” advocate Paul Joseph Watson, and right-wing activist Laura Loomer.

In 2018, Facebook removed a video of Farrakhan referring to Jews as “termites.”

Bossip is reporting that a fashion blogger was arrested for racking up thousands of dollars worth of purchases on someone else’s good name. Using the handle @simplicityxstyle, Shaniqua Jordan has grown a credible online following by posting chic photos of herself sporting very well put together ensembles. Another ingredient to her sauce are the purposely obvious luxury brand logos.

Considering her profile is absent from any repeated wears a natural question to ask is where is she getting all this money? Well Connecticut police figured it out, allegedly.

In 2017 Jordan was arrested for using a Stamford woman’s debit card to make unlawful purchases. Apparently, the Brooklyn native racked up $3,300 dollars worth of goods without getting noticed. It wasn’t until she ordered an $18,000 Rolex watch from a retailer in California and asked it to be shipped to a FedEx facility near the victim’s household. The unusual request concerned the store thus they alerted local police. The lawmen asked they just ship an empty box and promptly arrested the scammer when she showed up to claim the delivery with a false driver’s license.

I spent days upon days thinking about what in the world I could possibly do for you that would make this birthday amazing. I spent hours upon hours trying to figure out what in the world to get a man that gives me everything. Nothing could compare. Nothing was as sincere as me wishing you a happy day, not just today, but every day. It's simple, your happiness is my happiness. You came around and changed everything. You showed me I could be loved the way I love . We're still learning and growing as individuals while getting over past mistakes. We're learning that all we need is each other , all while making a family together . Overall: I am so lucky to have found a person like you in this crazy world, not many people are lucky in that way. I was already confident, goal driven, and lucky in life. I was already confident in myself, but you have made me really look at myself and love myself more than I already do. I was already goal driven, but you gave me more purpose ( Along with King) and determination to reach those goals, you gave me even more of a reason why. I was already lucky in this life, but you gave me someone to share that luck with and create our own. Thank you for helping me get by on those days I’m dying inside from missing my Daddy. Thank you for making me believe in the beautiful things in life, and thank you for being who you are. Happy birthday, my love. Here's to many more years of happiness together. Chris Rock is under fire after sharing an Instagram post joke connected to the El Paso and Dayton shooting tragedies. Using an image of comedic actress Betty White, Rock’s joke has some fans deeming him a racist for correctly pointing out the race of the domestic terrorists who carried out the crime.

Yahoo! reports:

“The first thing people say when a mass shooting is announced,” the meme posted by Rock read, with a photo of the Golden Girls star underneath. The punchline is a pun inspired by her name: “Bet he white.”

The post fetched mixed reactions, with many cracking up, some expressing relief that the beloved 97-year-old White hadn’t died and quite a few critics slamming Rock for linking the mass shootings to white men. (Last weekend’s shootings in El Paso and Dayton were both committed by white men, one of whom had expressed white supremacist beliefs, though there have been mass shootings, including the Aurora, Ill. and Virginia Beach, Va. ones earlier this year, perpetrated by men of color.)

What do you think? Is Chris Rock’s Betty White joke out of line? Sound off in the comments.
